Right now, the Final Head Start Performance Standards are being prepared for release. Now is the time to remind HHS how important local flexibility and parent and family engagement are in the Head Start model.

Parent engagement is very important to programs and children. Flexibility is also very important so that programs can ensure to get services to the children and families who need it the most.

Flexibility is key as different states offer different child care subsidies and preschool opportunities, urban, suburban and rural communities have different needs , and individual communities have cultural, economic and educational needs. Parent, family and community engagement are the foundation of how we move the work we do forward in each child's life to improve outcomes.
