Head Start works for all children. This is why:
Head Start gives all children the opportunity to:
1.Interact with other chilren their age in a safe and learning environment.
2. Learn their ABC's, Shapes, Science, Math, and other positive activities in their daily routine.
3. Children with special needs receive services that will help them when they get into public schools.
4. Parents can learn to advocate for their chilren through participation in the program via parents committee meetings giving them the opportunity to learn to advocate for their children and be independent.
5. Parents can also learn what their communities can offer them through reach out programs and can learn how to spend quality time with their children through workshops and parent training.
6. Through Head Start Parents learn how important it is to bring their children to their pediatrician for annual check ups thus keeping parents involved.
7. Limitless opportunities for parents and children to excel and reach their goals through Head Start.
8. Children will be READY to enter Kindergarten because they will be confident on what they can accomplish thanks to Head Start.
9. Children learn to socialize, to ask questions, to be curious, to be confident, to be sure of themselves.
10. Head Start give our children (the future of our country) the positive foundation to start out in life.
Dare we deny our children such precious and necessary gift?
Keep Head Start and you will be investing in our children, our future, our country.
enough said,
Sincerely,
Gladys
As an adult educator, I see the long-term consequences of not having a solid educational foundation. Our nation cannot afford to decrease funding for Head Start. We already underperform our international counterparts in math, science, and reading. If Head Start is not supported, we have no hope of competing in the global marketplace, or of meeting the need of providing a diverse pool of talent in STEM areas.
Investments in early childhood education have a fivefold societal return on investment. Access to early childhood education needs to be a funding priority for the USA, and Head Start has an excellent track record of successful outcomes.

At the time of our application to the Early Head Start program, I was a full-time online student raising my children at home. My children love to learn as much as I do, but I could not provide the guidance and tools an in-home teacher could provide for them. I knew both the children and I needed community support to reach our full potential and goals, and Community Action Partnership gave us their full attention and were eager to help with our needs.
Since our first in-home visit with our family advocate, I knew Early Head Start was going to have a fundamental impact on my children’s growth and development. We quickly formed a trusting bond with our advocate as she guided us through educational play using developmentally specific toys for their age, and providing me with follow-up activities to teach during the week.
By participating in small and large playgroups, Parent Committee, and Policy Council, I can affirm I am not the only parent that has benefited from the Early Head Start program. Both parents and children are benefiting from the guidance and social interactions that they may be missing as a stay-at-home family. The educational and informational Parent Committee meetings offer support to parents in raising their children in a positive and healthy environment. My family participates in Early Head Start because we want to, not because we have to.
I feel if the Early Head Start program is no longer supported in our community, the growth of low-income families will become stagnant. Every child and parent deserves an opportunity to become successful if they are willing to work hard to achieve their success. Early Head Start has proven that their strategy of early learning, growth and family development can help families become successful in their own potential, and I feel that can ultimately benefit everyone in our community.

Both of my children went through Head Start by choice, and it was amazingly useful for them. My son is autistic, and the patience of the teachers, plus the socialization it provided, made a *huge* difference in his life - he'll be in mainstream classes for 1st grade thanks to his time in Head Start!

I am a very involved head start parent asking you to please support our Headstart funding. I think that our young children deserve so much more to become successful.
I would do almost anything to keep this program going. It is a shame and people don't realize how important it is. We need to give our children every opportunity possible to succeed in life. We have far too many children who are falling by the wayside.

I had two children that went through the head start program and it was a wonderful expierience for them and me. I was also a member of the parent policy committee which allowed me to expierience new things, meetings, interviews, budget planning, conferences and so much more. I am now attending college after 15 years of working minimum wage jobs and recieveing state benefits for the last 8 yrs. I was truley inspired by the people in my local head start porogram and owe them for helping me want to have a better future for my children. As far as my children not being any farther ahead than children who did not attend a preschool program when they entered kindergarden, they were both developmentally behind and were able to recieve the necessary assistance to help them thrive in school and have a love and passion for learning that I can truly contribute to the head start program and its teachers! Head Start is supposed to be a program focused on low income children who do have typically will have a learning disadvantage and comparing them to any average child entering kindergarden is not fair to the program.

I do want to thank my congressional representatives and senators who voted for 2012 Head Start funding. I grew up poor, but thankfully my parents believed in education and lived by biblical principles. I am convinced that those early influences have made all the difference in how I turned out. Early education, done well, is an essential key to the future strength of our citizens and thus our country. Thank you.

I have two children ages 7 and 5 whom have gone to the amazing Head Start program in our county. They have learned so many things, much more than just the ABC's and 123's. They teach children how to function as people in society. They have also helped my family in so many ways. We have gone through some rough times with both parents being unemployed for some time and they were there with us any step of the way to help anyway they could. My family would be in a much different place if not for Head Start and I'm definitely glad we are not in that place! THANK YOU HEAD START! Every child deserves a Head Start

In 1990 my son attended Head Start. I was recently divorced, and my son needed this structure to help him. He had seperation anxiety. Head Start worked wonders for him! He was around children his own age. He wanted to go every day! My daughter was a baby at the time, and I wanted to volunteer in the classroom. I was able to bring her with me! When she was 4 in 1994, she attended as well. she loved it immediately! I volunteered in the classroom for her as well. Later on the Family Advocate arranged for me to volunteer in the main office. I was hired in 1998 as part time. In two years I was hired full time. I still work for Head Start as the Receptionist/Secretary! This is a wonderful program! The children benefit from this program tremendously! I hope and pray we get the support we need to keep this program operating! Thank you! Michelle

These two programs are vitally important in the low socioeconomic area where I live. Children and families will continue to thrive due to your continued support.
Thank you for recognizing the importance of HS and EHS for the youngest members of our community and future: our children.

I come to you as a former headstart child. I am the fourth of five children. Myself and one brother participated in the headstart program and we are also the only two of five children that pursued secondary education. My brother made it to his senior year in college before leaving to join the police academy. This left me to be the only one of five children that graduated from a university and am currently pursuing my masters. My daughter is currently apart of the headstart program and doing well. I am living proof that the program works and is a necessity in our communities.

Every child deserves a Head StartSun., Mar. 25, 2012 11:42 AM link Name not displayed | Lehigh Acres, FL

Thank You for supporting an amazing program. I have worked for the program almost 20 years. I just wish the employees could be paid what we are worth. The wage is way too low, a single parent can not make a living , without having a second job. Please ask for more $$ to keep quality teachers and assistants from having to work 2 jobs just to make a living. Deanna O'DonnellMon., Mar. 19, 2012 9:51 AM link Rebecca L. | Hammond, IN

the head start program is a great program me and my children LOVE it!!!!!!!!Mon., Mar. 12, 2012 1:57 PM link Michelle F. | Alfred, ME
In 1990 my son attended Head Start. Thank you! I realize that the budget is tight and cuts are being made. I would like to commend the members of Congress for taking the time to research and prioritize the funding that continues to support the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. These two programs are vitally important in the low socioeconomic area where I live. Children and families will continue to thrive due to your continued support.
Thank you for recognizing the importance of HS and EHS for the youngest members of our community and future: our children.
Sincerely,
Jackie Walsh

I come to you as a former headstart child. I am the fourth of five children. Myself and one brother participated in the headstart program and we are also the only two of five children that pursued secondary education. My brother made it to his senior year in college before leaving to join the police academy. This left me to be the only one of five children that graduated from a university and am currently pursuing my masters. My daughter is currently apart of the headstart program and doing well. I am living proof that the program works and is a necessity in our communities.
